I just stumbled across some dextrose based lollypops in Woolworths and thought they might be a better alternative to regular lollies for my kids.
They are mike and jacks Groovy Lollypops.
Ingredients list is Dextrose, corn syrup, acid, stabilisers, flavour, colors.
I guess the main question mark is corn syrup. Wikipedia says corn syrup is basically glucose syrup, but David has it in the bad sugars list on howmuchsugar.com
I'm assuming that it is not high fructose corn syrup or it would be labelled as such.
They certainly taste like dextrose. The kids like them (and would also probably eat a packet of straight dextrose in a sitting if I let them).
The reason corn syrup is in the bad list is because the fructose content can vary alot (from 1% to over 50%) and there is no obligation to disclose how much is in it. They can all be labelled as simply "corn syrup" - so I play it safe and put it in the bad list. This of course does not mean that those sweets are necessarily bad. If you post the contact details of the manufacturer (from the pack) ... I'll give them a call and find out if you like.
Thanks,
I tried to look up their webpage but it didn't work.
